Toshiba unveils slim HD DVD-Writer for the man-purse

Toshiba has just given us a peek, out here in Berlin at IFA, at its external HD DVD writer and Super-Multi drives for the PC. Behold the cunningly named HD DVD-Writer and HD DVD Super-Multi. They're for the PC.

Okay, so the names aren't particularly imaginative, but just look how diddy they are -- the 165g chassis is just 128 by 126 by just 13mm. These things will slot into your man-bag or purse and leave plenty of room for your moisturiser and lip balm.

We also like the fact they'll let you watch HD DVD movies on your PC or laptop, upscale ordinary DVD flicks to improve picture quality, and serve as a 15GB-per-disc backup solution. Did we mention they're also very thin?

The HD DVD-Writer supports CD, DVD+/-RW, HD DVD-ROM, and single and double-layer HD DVD-R formats. The HD DVD Super-Multi supports all of the above except HD DVD-R. They're available to buy right now -- prices start from £200. -Rory Reid

Il Toshiba 35 a quel prezzo è stupefacente e vedendo le caratteristiche.... PCM fino a 8 canali....
Da prendere asoslutamente insomma.
UScita prevista all'estero e da noi?

Masterizzatore esterno a quel prezzo è altrettanto da prendere in forte considerazione credo.

Tutto dipende dal gruppo ottico che viene montato. Potrebbero (metto il condizionale) aver messo il gruppo ottico giusto ma aspettare di aggiungere poi tramite upgrade firmware l'implementazione che permetta al lettore il cambio del terzo strato. Se invece il gruppo ottico non è compatibile nessun aggiornamento firmware potrà mai renderlo possibile

Ok, abbiamo i prezzi ufficiali dei due lettori HD DVD Toshiba e degli altri, direttamente dalla conferenza HD DVD in corso:

Venturer HD7000 - 299 euro

The latest from Venturer, the HD7000, is 300 euros. It's got upscaling and 720 and 1080 output.

Tosh intro the EP 30. It's 1080p compatible, it'll have 24 frames a second so the same as what movies are recorded in, all the industry standard stuff and will be 349 euros.

The EP35 has HDMI 1.3 with Deep Colour, 24fps and will be 449 euros. (I've got to check that. the slides are qizzing past...).

The HD-805 from Onkyo for 999 euro and will have the best of the best for the most high specd player out there.

Each HD-DVD player from Toshiba will come with 5 free HD movies.

Per quanto riguarda i dischi a tre strati da 51 gb non era stato detto qualche tempo fa che si sarebbero visti proprio in occasione dell'IFA di Berlino? Speriamo bene nelle prossime ore più che altro per vedere davvero il discorso compatibilità con i lettori attuali. Spero non si segua la strada del blu ray con le varie versioni 1.1 e 2.0

Aggiungo una nota importante: oltre al prezzo molto buono, finalmente anche in Europa ci sarà la promozione dei 5 film gratuiti con l'acquisto di un lettore HdDvd!!! Considerando un costo variabile dai 20 ai 30 euro in base al film si parla di un controvalore di 100/150 euro in omaggio. La lista dei titoli fra cui scegliere uscirà alla partenza della promozione, quella attualmente in corso negli Usa ha una rosa di 15 film fra cui scegliersi i 5
