ma incredibilmente Universal per il BD ha usato il master precedente (cosa confermata, oltre che da moltissimi indizi, anche dal tizio che ha realizzato il restauro, Robert Harris

La versione spagnola (che poi è la nostra edizione) parla di versione restaurata: se così non fosse sarebbe una vera truffa. A differenza dell'edizione USA che non porta nessuna dicitura di restauro.

la versione statunitense ha sicuramente il master sbagliato, per la nuova versione (la nostra che sarebbe anche la spagnola visti doppiaggi compresi) non ricordo di aver letto nessun articolo/recensione. Vediamo ormai esce fra due settimane anche in Italia e si dovrebbe scoprire qualcosa

Anche DVD-store riporta (e si può leggere sulla cover) "Versione Integrale Restaurata".
Non ci resta che aspettare: se così non fosse è da denucia pubblicizzare così spudoratamente una cosa non vera (considerando la brutta fama della versione USA).

Nel commento agli screen postati da Herbert parlano di trasferimento insoddisfacente rispetto a quanto visto precedentemente negli screen forniti a TheDigitalBits direttamente dalla Zoetrope di Coppola.Si parla di basso bit rate e ovviamente della presenza di filtri ammazzagrana...

Un'altro capolavoro smerigliato.
Dopo Il Signore degli Anelli, il Gladiatore, Ritorno al Futuro ci sono caduti anche con Apocalypse Now (anche se non mi sembra catastrofico).
Che schifo di tendenza però..

Sono d'accordo con Vincent,aspettiamo di vedere con i nostri occhi e poi giudichiamo.Il punto e' che se davvero il risultato sara' la festa dello smerigliamento,a me sinceramente cominceranno a girare le scatole per davvero.E' una tendenza davvero preoccupante...
E poi,stiamo parlando di un capolavoro del calibro di Apocalypse Now,non di Natale in India o cavolate varie...

Le specifiche di base sono confortanti

Apocalypse Now => scan 4k da interpositivo 35mm (Technovision) e restauro nuovo master HD supervisionato dal regista Francis Ford Coppola.

Just watched the BD, and it's not knock-your-socks-off pretty but it does the job IMO. It doesn't have that classically 'hard' DNR look, instead I'd say that perhaps it's been filtered a wee bit. There's a fair amount of dirt and scratches on the print (which jibes with what the restoration guys said in that Bits interview), but the opticals have been cleaned up quite beautifully, as they look extremely grainy on my French DVD of Redux.

I'm a little disappointed with the colour, as it can occasionally look over-saturated and it blows out things like skin tones, making people look green or yellow. I've seen this artefact quite a bit on recent releases, and I don't know if it's my display or whether the higher colour space of the masters doesn't translate too well to 8-bit or what.

As for the aspect ratio - oh my! It's like watching a different film at times, I **** you not. And about 2 minutes in you can see just how badly the composition has been treated by previous versions. In 2.35, Willard is on the left, the ceiling fan is in the middle and the jungle is on the right, all comped together. On the 2:1 version, all we get is Willard and the ceiling fan. Storaro = tit.

The sound is top-notch but then that's nothing new, as Apocalypse Now has always been one of the best sounding films in my collection regardless of the video format. The rears are alive with action and atmosphere, dialogue is rarely lost among the madness of battle and the brooding score does its job. The low end is a menacing, threatening prescence throughout the film, adding a tremendous amount of weight to the score and giving the action scenes a helluva kick.

One tiny little hiccup with the encoding though. When Willard's aboard the PBR going through the Kurtz dossier, he reads a quote from one of Kurtz' letters: "I am beyond their timid, lying morality", heard at about 1:22:22 on Redux or 1:14:03 on the theatrical. On the theatrical cut, it plays fine. On Redux, the last part of "beyond" is repeated, e.g. "beyond-ond". The video doesn't appear to skip or jump, and it doesn't throw out the audio sync of the rest of the film either. It's a split-second blip, so it's not a problem for me. Watching on a Sony BDPS470 with the latest firmware.

Riassumendo dice che non è un disastro di DNR selvaggio, ma è stato (secondo lui) filtrato un pò. Aggiunge che i colori talvolta sono sopra-saturi (si dice-scrive così?) e che talvolta possono far cambiare il colore alla pelle. OAR è perfetto così come audio da riferimento.
Qualche piccolo problema nel riprodurre il BD che è stato segnalato già da altri utenti in altri forum!
