First of all I have to tell you that it not me who normally does calibration. It is Jakob that goes out to the customer to do this. So, Jakob has much more experience in calibration than me. I have just put almost 1.5h to do this calibration. However, I needed a total of 3-4hrs to be really satisfied with this calibration. This set must get another calibration when the set has run for a longer time, at which point we hope to come to the ideal ISF-Position.
We turned down all lights in our shop when I made this calibration. However, it was still relatively light inside the shop. Software for this is still not available.
I started to measure the set directly out of the box in standard settings. I measured the set with the two different colour spaces that are available.
Uncalibrated standard position with colour space 1.
Uncalibrated standard position with colour space 2.
Then, I measured what gamma looks like.
And then grayscale.
When I measured standard contrast, it was 6378:1. Brightness 46 fL at 100IRE.(whole white).
I chose to go from colour position 2 because it is relatively close to standard, but there is not enough saturation. I increased the total amount of colour only by a few steps, and then that was almost perfect. I tried to calibrate from colour position 1 too, but it was really hopeless. I couldn’t get the secondary colours (yellow, magenta and cyan) to their right positions on the curve.
Here is the white balance result:
There is too much push in blue at 90/100IRE.
ISF software where you could fix the gamma for every base colour will be priceless.
After some work, this is what I get with white balance:
And I achieved a gamma value of almost where it should be, at 2.28. However, there is a slight S-shape to it. With ISF-Software and much more time, it would be possible to make it 100%.
trast after calibration was 8108:1.
When I watched HD on the TV, it was so nice that I wanted to jump into the set. It’s just crashes the 5000EX with an HD source.
