Cinema Filter aka Re-eq is a must and should be turned ON....
....The fact is - all films are mixed under an internationally recognized “X-CURVE” the SMPTE 202M. This X-CURVE changes from cinema to cinema and is set based on measurements taken from the interaction between the loudspeakers and room’s acoustics. In the film world, the X-CURVE is essentially “flat” to 2K and then rolls off at 3dB per octave. So 2K is flat, 4K is -3dB, 8K is -6dB and 16K is -9dB. As I said the curve is modified from room to room, but on a RTA will look as decribed. There is also a small amount of bass adjustment starting at 50Hz -1dB, 40Hz -2 dB and 30 -3dB. In the home the bass portion is not considered essential, as a lot of Subwoofers roll off at 30Hz anyway. But the top end is very important. The major difference between the cinema X-CURVE and a home Re-eq, is the amount of high frequency attenuation needed to sound “flat” in the home. This is largely due to the fact that we sit around 6 to 10 feet from the LCR speaker compared to 60 to 100 feet in a cinema.....
.....Basically film soundtracks are equalized for the playback in one environment and need to be Re-equalized for the playback in the home. The term Cinema EQ is just to get around the fact THX have trade mark on Re-eq, but it is the same thing. if you need more info on this visit www.thx.com
