Dear Valued Backer,

Since our last update, we have made significant progress in Olive ONE's development. We want to share with you some key news and pictures of the first pre-production samples.

The Olive ONE has a single body die-casted aluminum enclosure, with a beautiful anodized finish and glossy glass touch-screen surface.

Olive ONE sports a user installable hard drive. Making the hard disk drive user installable involved solving a few design challenges.
The hard drive will now reside in a small compartment on the underside of the ONE.

As discussed in our last update email, we added premium-grade connectors directly to the Olive ONE, eliminating the need for the Olive PAC.

Notice something? We have added Gigabit Ethernet to the Olive ONE! Many of you requested Ethernet connectivity during the Indiegogo campaign, but we were unable to add it due to the limitations of the Marvel processor used in the original design.

ONE will now come with a brand new Freescale processor with significant performance benefits:

The new Freescale processor shows significant increases in navigation performance. Browsing through music libraries and transitions are now much more smooth and fluid. Additionally, video playback capability (e.g. for YouTube playback) improves considerably.

The change to a new processor is of course a major challenge, but the porting of our software has so far showed no major complications. Nevertheless, we want to communicate clearly that we still have not ported all of the software, and there might be unforeseen delays that can push the product delivery into November, which would be the worst case scenario.

At this point, we have used approximately 30% of the funds raised for tooling, PCB and enclosure prototyping and sourcing of key parts for the Bill of Material. Our accounting team is currently entering your contribution details and you will receive an official contribution confirmation from Olive soon, confirming your contribution amount, product model, shipping address and an estimated shipping date.

Thank you again for supporting this project and your amazing feedback over the last months. We understand that the delay in shipping is anything less than ideal, but we believe that implementing your feedback and key feature requests was worth the extra effort and cost. We hope you see it the same way.

Next Steps
Shipping of the Olive ONE will happen in several stages. The first shipment in December will go out to a small number of backers who have volunteered to test the ONE thoroughly and work with us to get the software through the home stretch. Although we've already tested ONE with a wide range of different phones, network equipment and UPnP sources, there is no substitute for a "real" market test to ensure compatibility in various environments and settings.

Since testing will require some technical background, an ideal volunteer will have a good understanding of IT and will have owned a networked music player, such as a Logitech Squeezebox, in the past. To participate as a testing volunteer, please fill out our short questionnaire. If you're selected as a volunteer, we will reach out to you with a confirmation of your participation.

Once we have received adequate test feedback and implemented improvements, we will send the remaining Olive ONE orders. Currently, we estimate that the testing and implementation phase will take about 4-6 weeks after the volunteers receive their products. This means that all backers will receive a fully tested and approved Olive ONE in the first quarter of next year.

Stay tuned!

Ultima modifica:

http://images.indiegogo.com/medias/576039/files/20121210173350-ONE_datasheet.pdf?1355189633

Adesso è "no later than march" (2014)

Hello Francesco,

sorry, it seems you did not get our last update email that we sent out last Friday (please see below).

The first test units have been shipped to our backers and we expect to receive their feedback soon. We estimate that the testing phase and the implementation of potential bugs and improvements will take about 4 to 6 weeks. With that in mind we should ship all units to backers by end of February, but no later than March.

Thank you for your continued patience.

Have a great start into 2014!
