"The initial brightness issue with last year's model wasn't bulb related, but some bulbs (not all as Jonstatt can testify) had issues with premature failure and accelerated loss of lumens. The new models come with new bulbs (reference ending in 003) which in my experience don't increase the initial brightness in an old model, as this is achieved through improvements in the light path and filters in the new models, but are supposed to be more stable and reliable, so their usable life should be longer in both last year and this year models. We do not know yet if this is true, but what we know is:
the bulbs are different (same model, same reference but differente version) between the rs50 and rs55, but they ARE compatible. The rs50 bulbs (and rs40/60) had a version number on the bulb ending in 001 or 002. The new bulbs on the rs45/rs55/65 have a version number on the bulb itself ending in 003. The reference to order them, or the reference on the box is the same though as they are compatible (an rs55 bulb will fit an rs50 and vice versa). I believe all bulbs ordered now for either models (rs40/50/60/45/55/65) should be of the new variation unless the dealer has old stock, but there is no way to be sure unless you get a confirmation that the version number on the bulb itselfs ends in 003 (or above). These bulbs were NOT available before the rs45/55 launch, so if you got your bulb before it is not one of those fit in the new models. Its version number should end in 001 or 002 and is not of the new kind. It doesn't necessarily mean it will have a problem though, and again a new model of bulb is unlikely to give you more initial lumens when used in last year's projectors. I mean, compared to a new old bulb of course, not compared to an old old bulb"
