Innanzitutto un grazie di cuore a Nick per l'impegno profuso in questo topic
Cerchiamo pero' di non fare falsa informazione soprattutto se il disco in questione non si e' visto con i propri occhi,il BD Criterion e' tutto fuorche' "scrauso",leggete anche le parole dell'esperto Tooze nella rece di dvd Beaver:

E' vero che qualche difetto di macroblocking si puo' rilevare (ma soprattutto a frame in pausa),ma la resa rimane eccellente sotto tutti i punti di vista.Certo,tre dischi avrebbero risolto del tutto il problema,peccato.

Ottime notizie: contento per L'AR 1.66:1 che è il compromesso corretto a mio parere e infatti è l'aspect ratio del disco 1 anche nell'edizione Criterion

...Assolutamente Dany , ci mancherebbe altro, mai detto una cosa del genere e mai la dirò !
...Poichè Il dettaglio della Compressione è sì importante, ma a fronte di una delle Edizioni (e parlo in Generale, cioè dalla cura del packaging a tutto il resto...) di questo Capolavoro, fra le più complete che si siano MAI viste sulla faccia della terra (dall'avvento del Blu Ray Disc e dell'Alta Fedeltà AUDIO/VIDEO) , l'Edizione Criterion è E Resterà la Migliore , in assoluto, poichè come spesso ho ripetuto, un Trasferimento lo si deve SEMPRE valutare a 360°.
...Anche perchè è vero che la compressione è un pò altina, ma si mantiene comunque nei Limiti, e rientra tranquillamente negli standard di sicurezza, poichè nell'ordine abbiamo , citando il Report di dvdbeaver...:

Video Bitrate: 22.49 Mbps (1.66:1) / 20.99 Mbps (both 1.33:1 + 1.85:1)

...che è comunque più che accettabile, per non avere grossi problemi di compressione.
...Poi vabbè, col frame in pause è normale che la cosa sia più visibile, ma dato che l'Opera la si vede col frame in movimento...
...Certo è , come tu accennavi e come anche io ho detto in precedenza, che l'utilizzo di un Terzo BD, avrebbe risolto tutto , ma vabbè, nella vita non è che si possa avere tutto e bisogna anche saper valutare i pro e i contro...
...ad esempio, anche se nella nostra edizione Sony, sicuramente noi avremo il video Encodato molto più generosamente rispetto a quello Criterion, dall'altra parte, tutti i meravigliosi Extra che la Criterion ha , noi ce li possiamo solo SOGNARE...

...In definitiva, concordo pienamente, con i giudizi che unanime promuovono questa Superba Edizione , con il Massimo dei Voti !!!

...per adesso, solo visite e nessuna replica , ma la cosa curiosa (ed anche un pó simpatica ) é che non ho neanche finito di aprire I Thread, che appena un'attimo dopo aver Pubblicato le Mie Segnalazioni e Tutti gli Aggiornamenti ( Ufficiali e Corretti ), qualche Moderatore (sicuramente Svet e qualcun'altro...) é corso ad aggiornare TUTTE le schede per ognuna delle relative uscite, su BluRay.Com ...

...Nella scheda della Tedesca , hanno aggiornato i dettagli sulla traccia audio Inglese (la quale abbiamo scoperto che sarà appunto in DTS-HD-MA 5.1 e non Mono...) e cosa importantissima , hanno aggiornato l'AR, segnalando non piú l'1.85:1 , ma finalmente l'1.66.1 !!! ...come l'altro giorno abbiamo scoperto

Nell'edizione tedesca però c'hanno piazzato un original aspect ratio 1,85:1...
Le tracce mono poi siamo certi che siano Dolby Digital? Se non erro in altri titoli la Sony ha adottato anche il DTS-HD MA Mono

L'aspect ratio è certamente 1.66:1 e le tracce mono sono in Dolby Digital, c'è anche il logo sul fondo del retrocopertina...

...Come immaginavo, è vero che non abbiamo tutti i meravigliosi Extra dell'Edizione Criterion...
...Però Io credo che a livello di compressione, come si evince dai due Report, ci è andata decisamente di lusso !!!
...L'unico pensiero/considerazione, che mi passa per la mente è che la Sony, pur avendo a disposizione un'intero BD da 50-GB, si è tenuta comunque negli "standard", di compressione , ossia , il Disco Sony con gli Extra tracce audio , video ecc, pesa in totale circa 31 GB, per il Video il Totale sono quasi 28 GB, che è già di per se Stratosferico, ma voi pensate un pò se avessero utilizzato almeno altri 10-15 GB...sarebbe venuta fuori una Bomba Atomica !!!...
...Ma è naturale che è una battuta la mia e non lo potevano fare , poichè già così, la compressione del Sony è nettamente minore e gestita molto ma MOLTO meglio, rispetto al disco Criterion, se poi avessere fatto addirittura un BD Superbit di ON THE WATERFRONT, sarebbe scoppiato il finimondo !!...

...Adesso pubblico i report sul Forum USA, così faccio rosicare un pochettino gli Americani ...

Domanda tecnica: come si ottengono questi report? Usando BDInfo per caso? Lo chiedo perché sono da poco possessore di un lettore/masterizzatore BD per computer e quindi mi piacerebbe poterli ricavare io stesso.

Esatto si usa BDinfo, il report riportato dal gentilissimo Jesse l'ho ricavato io da questo minuscolo programmino davvero prodigioso.
Per quanto riguarda gli screen basta avere i codec giusti installati sul PC, io come player uso Media Player Classic Home Cinema...

I did not misunderstand your post But I definitely disagree with what has been posted here. To be perfectly clear, the claim that there is some macroblocking issue on the Criterion release is simply off.

What the term macroblocking refers to isn't present on the Criterion release.

On the other hand, I cannot offer an opinion on this Region-B release of On the Waterfront because I have not seen it, but I would be shocked if what you have written is in fact true - which is that grain is "much better managed". I will have one of these Region-B releases soon and will comment again after I see the film in its entirety again and compare the presentation with Criterion's presentation, but there cannot be such drastic differences as speculated in this thread.

...Perchè lui in primis si riferisce all'utente eChopper, che un pò più indietro asseriva che sul Criterion c'erano dei macroblocking, e poi ha frantieso su di me, ma perchè forse io ho utilizzato un termine che non dovevo usare e cioè che ho scritto che la grana è meglio gestita nell'edizione Sony, in realtà come avevo scritto qualche riga prima, io intendevo che grazie alla minore compressione, il BD Sony ha una maggiore percezione del dettaglio, grazie alla grana che è appunto molto meglio visibile su quest'ultimo, rispetto al BD Crieterion, d'altronde gli screen parlano chiaro e mica è colpa mia se sul Criterion l'1.66 e più compressa rispetto al Sony...
