Creative EAD 4.0
Posto la news appena ricevuta come utente registrato creative.
Il dubbio che non ho risolto: ma si potrà usufruire di queste nuove funzionalità aggiornando i driver, ovvero, come credo, è un hardware nuovo?
EAX® 4.0 ADVANCED HD™: Multi-Environment ™ and Studio FXs
EAX® 4.0 ADVANCED HD™ is the greatest leap forward for EAX since its inception. EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD completely releases the processing power of the Sound Blaster® Audigy® and Sound Blaster Audigy 2 series of sound cards, allowing developers to use multiple effects at once and all of its Acoustic effects. This is a substantial upgrade for EAX since it can now support 3 reverberation effects at once or up to 4 of the new Studio FXs at once. With multiple effects, game audio is now taking a large leap forward to acoustic realism.
Multi-Environment™ support is going to change the way that EAX is implemented in games. This moves the reverberation effects away from just being the listener's reverb to being able to tie reverberation effects directly to the sounds themselves. Multi-Environment is a great addition to the 3D audio of the game that allows the listener to accurately pinpoint audio sources and get a better sense of their 3D acoustic environment.
Star Wars® Jedi Knight®: Jedi Academy™ from Raven Software and LucasArts is the first game title to take advantage of EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD. By taking advantage of the multi-environment feature Jedi Academy was able to create seamless transitions of acoustic environments since now a sound source could carry a reverb with it into the next environment. Also, Jedi Academy was able to accurately pan and control the directivity of the reverb enhancing the 3D audio of the game.
The new Studio FXs in EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD really bring something different to EAX. Previous versions of EAX focused on reverberation effects, and now with EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD we have added in support for 11 new effects: Autowah, Chorus, Distortion, EAX Automatic Gain Control Compressor, EAX EQ, Echo, Flanger, Frequency Shifter, Pitch Shifter, Ring Modulator and Vocal Morpher.
EAX Autowah
The Auto-wah effect emulates the sound of a wah-wah pedal used with an electric guitar, or a mute on a brass instrument. Such effects allow a musician to control the tone of their instrument by varying the point at which high frequencies are cut off.
EAX Chorus
EAX 4.0 provides a stereo chorus, with delayed signals on both left and right channels. To add some variation to the effect, the delay time of the delayed versions of the input signal is modulated by an adjustable oscillating waveform. This causes subtle shifts in the pitch of the delayed signals, emphasizing the thickening effect.
EAX Distortion
The distortion effect simulates turning up (overdriving) the gain stage on a guitar amplifier or adding a distortion pedal to an instrument's output. The distortion effect could be very useful for adding extra dynamics to engine sounds in a driving simulator, or modifying samples such as vocal communications.
EAX Echo
This provides a stereo Echo effect. This would be very useful for providing outdoor echo effects for games with longer decay times then the ones available from the EAX reverb engine.
EAX Flanger
The flanger effect creates a "tearing" or "whooshing" sound (like a jet flying overhead).
EAX Frequency Shifter
The frequency shifter is a single-sideband modulator, which translates all the component frequencies of the input signal by an equal amount. The frequency shifter disrupts harmonic relationships and radically alters the sonic qualities of the signal. Applications of the frequency shifter include the creation of bizarre distortion, phaser effects, stereo widening, and rotating speaker effects.
EAX Pitch Shifter
The pitch shifter effect allows adjustments to the pitch of the input signal, without any change to the tempo or length of the source sound. This could be very useful if a developer wanted to create a "slow-mo" type of time effect and could then pitch down the audio to simulate the slowing of time.
EAX Ring Modulator
The ring modulator multiplies an input signal by a carrier signal in the time domain, resulting in tremolo or inharmonic effects.
EAX Vocal Morpher
This effect allows adjustments to vocal tracts allowing them to simulate a male to female or female to male conversion of voices. This effect can also be used to alter voices making them either lower or higher.
EAX EQ
Four band parametric EQ; two middle bands have adjustable frequency. This could be a great way for developers to add in an extra kick to the sounds by increasing the bass levels individually on the sounds.
EAX Automatic Gain Control Compressor
The Automatic Gain Control effect performs the same task as a studio compressor - evening out the audio dynamic range of an input sound. This results in audio exhibiting smaller variation in intensity between the loudest and quietest portions. The AGC Compressor will boost quieter portions of the audio, while louder portions will stay the same or may even be reduced.
The Studio FXs were deployed on Sound Blaster Live! and Audigy series for end-users to enhance their audio. This is the first time these effects are open to game developers for inclusion in games. Now that the Studio FXs have been fully integrated within EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD, expect some great sounding gaming titles from developers in the near future!
ciao
