Forse non tutti sapevano, o meglio nessuno legge i miei articoli, che lo scorso anno la DTS e' entrata nel DVB org, cioe' e' entrata a far parte dell'organismo internazionale che promuove la televisione digitale nel formato oggi conosciuto che sfrutta il sistema di compressione dati Mpeg2. Ora siamo alla presentazione ufficiale dei primi risultati, cosi' come per il DVD forse in un remoto futuro (remoto sicuramente per il mercato europeo) potremo avere il DTS come audio multicanale per la TV digitale. In Usa quindi potrebbe finire l'esclusiva del DD nell'HDTV.

DTS Adds Surround Sound to Digital Television

DTS will be demonstrating its solution for broadcasting high-quality 5.1 digital surround sound in the DVB digital television standard at IBC2002, the International Broadcasting Convention taking place September 12-15 in Amsterdam.

DTS has been working in partnership with Leitch to develop an end-to-end solution that will allow multichannel audio to pass through an existing broadcast stereo infrastructure. The two companies will be collaborating at IBC2002 to demonstrate the technical and commercial reality of delivering uncompromised surround sound, as well as its spectacular quality.

"Home theater setups are no longer the province of the enthusiast, the audiophile," says DTS' Ted Laverty. "Surround sound is now part of the greater consumer market. Broadcasters are seeing other consumer formats that use multichannel audio cutting into their bottom line as a broadcaster."

Laverty continues, "If you want to compete effectively with high-resolution formats like DVD, you have to be looking at a way of delivering an experience that is currently not available through standard broadcast systems. DTS' scalable systems allow the broadcaster to deliver excellent sound quality to the home."

Nicola, speriamo davvero di avere il DTS anche via satellite ( forse nel 2070 in Italia ...... ).

Comunque tecnicamente parlando non mi stupisco piu' di tanto visto che se si riesce a far passare il DD non vedo perche' non si possa far passare il flusso DTS che oltretutto e' uno standard molto flessibile ed intelligente come concezione.

Secondo me visto che il DTS prevede anche compressioni non distruttive poteva benissimo diventare il formato multicanale universale con grande vantaggio per gli utenti.

Ma le politiche di mercato ..........
