Questo thread intende essere il gemello del thread di Jimbo74 (link) sulle uscite di HD DVD in italiano, ma dedicato agli anglofoni tra noi.

Il formato HD DVD infatti rispetto al Blu-Ray ha il vantaggio di essere completamente region-free, e quindi per chi capisce l'inglese è possibile godere delle versioni originali dei film, spesso in anteprima rispetto all'uscita europea, e con a volte contenuti aggiuntivi migliori.

L'idea mi sembra ottima. E che ne dici di segnalare anche le eventuali incompatibilità di lettura di alcuni titoli d'importazione? Bene comincio io: il documentario "Relentless Enemies " del National Geographic non funziona assolutamente con il lettore hd-dvd dell xbox 360, neppure con il recentissimo aggiornamento software di alcuni giorni fa. Quindi ai possessori del lettore consiglio per il momento di non comprarlo.

Inoltre per quanto riguarda Relentless Enemies, un insider Microsoft ha scritto che richiede un aggiornamento del firmware, non della dashboard, e quindi ci vorrà più tempo perchè eventuali errori porterebbero ad un danno permanente del lettore HD DVD:


Relentless enemies requires a firmware update, which is always a tricky undertaking. I'm not sure what our current plans are regarding this, since firmware updates tend to brick a device if they don't go perfectly.

Dopo Matrix, sembra che abbiamo un altro capolavoro tra le mani: Letters From Iwo Jima ha ottenuto 5 stellette in video ed in audio, ed una entusiastica recensione da HighDef Digest!


Presented in 1080p using the VC-1 codec, 'Letters from Iwo Jima' is simply stunning. Like the high-def releases of 'Flags of Our Fathers,' this transfer is overflowing with crisp edges, deep black levels, and great shadow delineation. The color palette is muted, but beautiful in its own right. Contrast is also nice, making the film feel more like a documentary than a modern war film. Likewise, the skintones are purposefully drained of color and the realistic shadowing adds a convincing amount of depth to the picture. But perhaps best of all, 'Letters from Iwo Jima' boasts reference level fine object detail. Dust settles on war-weary arms, bullets splinter on stone, and explosions send tiny flecks of debris through the air -- it's truly a feast for the eyes.
