I'm quite an expert on this topic since I've done a lot of research and test on it. It's true that the equipment has a built in software version that is quite old, but nevertheless it has the opportunity to collect data (and record tv programs) via external decoder, both terrestrial and satellite ones, connected to the scart line input: this is a standard features (it is also able to control the decoder via G-link) and indeed it was working well till march 2010 (it was impossibile that it was getting data from the analogue signal since it was switched off on November 2009).
I don't have a satellite decoder (i.e SKY), but looking at the internet this very same device from Sony is still working with satellite data gathering for Guideplus, it's only stopped working on digital broadcasting in Italy.
In my personal opinion, MTV should have changed the way they make available the data over their dvbt mux.
I still hope that you can do something, since the broadcaster doesn't answer and SONY, obviously, say it's a problem of the broadcaster (and obviously again they are not planning to update the version of guideplus sw on their "old" devices).
Thanks in advance for what you can do for us
