A causa di un regalo di Natale sto allestendo un piccolo impianto hi-fi e siccome fino ad oggi per ascoltare la musica utilizzavo un micro hi-fi, il pc o il lettore mp3 non avevo grandi pretese sulla qualità.
Però tra poco dovrò testare l'impianto e quindi volevo capire con quali cd potevo metterlo alla prova.

Quindi preso dalla curiosità ho installato il plugin Dynamic Range e gli ho dato in pasto "Vivere o niente", l'ultimo album di Vasco Rossi, ecco il risultato :

il 90% dei cd usciti dal 1982 al 2000 non sono afflitti da questa vera e propria distruzione del suono.

il 90% dei cd usciti dal 2000 ad oggi sono sempre più compressi o come amo dire io "pompati" che per chi come noi ascolta un cd audio su un impianto stereo e non tramite ipod e simili diventa una vera tortura ai danni del nostro apparato uditivo....ma anche della nostra psiche dato che almeno io mi arrabbio non poco quando incappo in un bell'album che non posso gustarmi sull'impianto :-/

Ne esiste una versione senza scadenza scaricabile dal sito dell'autore del plug in, il cui nome ahimé non ricordo. Comunque, googlando, credo si trovi qui: http://www.jokhan.demon.nl/DynamicRange/#Download

Approfitto del post per segnalare che il Dynamic Range Day 2012 è imminente (16 Marzo). E' possibile visitarne il sito ufficiale, organizzare un evento fisico parallelo, o visitarne la pagina di Facebook dove è peraltro possibile votare l'album dinamico meglio suonante del 2011/2012 (o suggerirne uno che non è ancora in lista). Dovrebbe esserci anche una competizione del tipo "indovina qual è il mix più dinamico dei tre presentati" con in palio un premio gentilmente offerto da SSL Logic, ma ancora non è stata messa online.

Vi allego anche qualche screen della forma d'onda di alcuni brani che sono uno spettacolo per gli occhi

l'album è uscito sia nel formato CD Standard che Special Edition con l'aggiunta di un DVD contente i brani in versione 5.1 e stereo 24-bit.

Compratelo che ne vale veramente la pena! sia tecnicamente che sul piano puramente artistico.

lo so, ma considerando lo spessore degli artisti in questione e considerando ciò che gli stessi musicisti dissero ai tempi di vapor trails...e cioè questo:

The production of Vapor Trails has been criticized by critics and fans alike because of the album's "loud" sound quality. Albums such as this have been mastered so loud that additional digital distortion is generated during the production of the CD. The trend, known as the loudness war, has become very common on modern rock CDs.

As told by Rip Rowan on the ProRec website, the damaged production is the result of overly compressed (clipped) audio levels during mastering,[9] though Rush has admitted that there was digital distortion during recording, which also contributed to the damage. Remastering the album would not correct the damage from digital distortion that was introduced during recording, but it could correct the other, more destructive damage that is the result of overly compressing the audio during mastering.

On Retrospective 3, Richard Chycki, who recently worked with the band on the R30 and both the Snakes & Arrows album and live sets, remixed "One Little Victory", and "Earthshine". In an interview with Modern Guitars, Lifeson remarked that since the remixes were so good, there has been talk of doing an entire remix of the album.[10] He also stated:

It was a contest, and it was mastered too high, and it crackles, and it spits, and it just crushes everything. All the dynamics get lost, especially anything that had an acoustic guitar in it.


Mi sarei aspettaato che questo nuovo disco fosse stato trattato in maniera più decente e invece no, (ricordo con orrore anche il live R30 INASCOLTABILE) , bè se lo possono tenere, di certo nn l'aquisterò.

altra storia invece Tobias Sammet il leader di un gruppo power metal gli edguy (che a me neanche piacciono) il quale in un intervista disse:

"Più ascolto ciò che sta accadendo nel mondo dell'Heavy Metal al giorno d'oggi, più mi trovo a desiderare di sentire una batteria che suoni come tale. Voglio che sia potente senza sembrare Atari. Io e Sascha [produttore del nuovo album degli Edguy - n.d.T.] siamo giunti alla conclusione che occorre ripartire dall'inizio e fare le cose come vanno fatte, anziché come vuole la moda. Non voglio un master distorto solo perché suoni forte abbastanza per l'iPhone o per il computer. Se parli con la maggior parte dei produttori più in voga ti diranno "E' il segno dei tempi, devi saper competere nella Loudness War..." Ma che *****?!? Se voglio che suoni forte alzo il volume dello stereo! Io voglio dinamica, headroom, un suono che sia veramente grande e non quella compressione distorta che fa molto trendy. Perché non facciamo tutti un passo indietro e torniamo a registrare musica che suoni bene, anziché forte? Fate una ricerca su Google per "Loudness War" e capirete cosa intendo..."

Ho comprato quell'album degli Edguy appena è uscito proprio perché Sammett ha criticato apertamente la Loudness War nelle interviste e ha avuto le palle di fare un album con un po' di dinamica. La musica a me non dispiace, tra l'altro. Certo, preferirei che facessero lo stesso band molto più estreme...
