Se ciò fosse vero quelli della Fox sono diventati scemi: hanno dimostrato fin'ora di fare BD con "master HD approvato dai filmaker", altre major come la Disney e prossimamente la Universal hanno rieditato titoli a causa dei filtri digitali. E questi adesso si mettono a filtrare delle riedizioni! Ripeto: se ciò fosse confermato la cosa è gravissima. Una riedizione peggiore dell'originale

Ho visto questo bellissimo film nel settembre del 1987 in uno dei migliori cinema a Milano, mi trovavo li e non ho perso l'occasione,mi ricordo che rimasi colpito dalla pessima qualita' visiva,definizione bassissima,il film sembrava avvolto da una specie di effetto neve,sono stato sempre un maniaco della qualita' quindi rimasi delusissimo , a fronte di un gran film, una pessima qualita' della pellicola,non so perche' ma tecnicamente questo film nasce male e come se fosse stato girato "in bassa definizione"

Da un lato (e spero di aver ragione) sono un pò scettico su questa recensione. Iniziamo ad analizzare la pellicola: è inequivocabile che sia presente molta grana, sia per il tipo di pellicola sia per il tipo di riprese. Tutto questo è presente nel primo BD. Alla grana (e in parte anche rumore) della prima edizione andrebbe tolto quel disturbo dovuto al codec mpeg2 (che tra l'altro non è ad un bitrate così elevato). Senza considerare che in parte quel disturbo (grana/rumore) è dovuto alla stampa/conservazione del master e NON alle condizioni del girato originale. Quello che sto dicendo è che nei grandi restauri Warner/MPI un filtro di pulizia dell'immagine (chiamatelo come volete) viene usato. Questo perchè quando si fa uno scan sovracampionato (per le condizioni di certe pelicole l'8k è un sovracampionamento) si "tira su" di tutto, cose che con l'immagine e la grana originale hanno poco a che fare. Quello che sto cercando di dire è che un restauro di Predator NON dovrebbe rimuovere la grana, ma "contenerla", mantenere quella grana fisiologica e non "patologica" (dovuta all'età ,alla conservazione e pulizia del master). Quindi mi aspetto un Predator con grana visibile ma poco "disturbata".
Il tempo ci darà una risposta
P.s. senza considerare che magari il master di questa nuova edizione è diverso (con tutti i cambiamenti del caso).

"After clicking on "Play movie", we see the 80es FOX Logo - totally blurred out and bar any structure. It is rather improbable that a new HD master has been struck from the original negative. The credits go on in a similar way. Here, the whole film grain has been filtered away (degrained) and the credits have been enhanced / sharpened. At the first encounter between Carl Weathers and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Weathers looks like he has been filmed through a scattering filter or veil. Thus, his face has neither pores nor wrinkles, and looks like a wax figure, like in "The Longest Day". The degrainer filter has much problems with movements and creates frayed, soft edges. In the jungle, where the camera movements get very slow, the degrained edges are cleaner and smoother, so the picture gets clearer and more vivid. However, because of that, the picture gets a bit artificial or digital, with sharp edges and low detail between these edges. You cannot compare this effect with "The Untouchables" or "The Italian Job" - in those films, the picture quality was somehow bearable. Il tizio sa il fatto suo ed argomenta in modo molto preciso.
I commenti che ho evidenziato imho lasciano pochi dubbi sulla qualità del "nuovo video".

Interessantissimo post, ovviamente da AVS, dove un utente confronta il Bluray -prima edizione- con la pellicola appena vista al cinema:
"So about 6 hours ago, I was able to see a 35mm presentation of Predator at one of the American Cinematheque theaters here in Los Angeles (and a print which looked to be quite new). After enduring complaint after complaint on this and other forums about the look of the Blu-ray, I was particularly focused on the look of the film and came home to run the BD up against what I had just seen. The bottom line (and final word as far as I'm concerned) is that not only is the Blu-ray a completely accurate presentation of the film, in many ways it's actually superior to any theatrical presentation. Much of the FX work has been cleaned up versus the theatrical prints (such as the original arrival of the Predator on Earth -the first shot of the film- which is polluted with dirt from the FX compositing. The BD has been cleaned to show no dirt at all in this shot.) The colors of the BD are a bit more vibrant, the image noticeably crisper (no doubt due in some part to the reduction in screen size) and the black level and shadow detail is much cleaner/clearer than the 35mm print. They were definitely able to dial things in and improve the image on Blu-ray without harming the look of the film.
But again, the Blu-ray is a completely accurate presentation of Predator and should not be subjected to any criticism. If you don't like the way the Predator Blu-ray looks, than unfortunately...

Morale della favola, mi tengo stretta la vecchia edizione. A me soddisfa e quando la proietto mi sembra di vedere una pellicola e non un pulitissimo "blob digitale" (o meglio, "digitally remastered").
Certo, alla fine mi toccherà prendere anche la nuova, dato che:
- adoro Predator e sono un "completista". In più voglio vedere i nuovi extra.
- voglio divertirmi a fare la comparison dvd/bdvecchio/bdnuovo
- chi disprezza compra (soprattutto questo)
ma dovranno proprio tirarmela dietro... come il BD del Gladiatore, pagato 8,90 Euro con l'ingresso gratuito al cinema.

Che tristezza queste release ragazzi.
Mi sa che mi tengo stretto il vecchio BD nascosto sotto il cuscino piuttosto che gettare soldi su quest'immondizia.

Sarebbe interessante vedere degli screen per vedere quanto è stato gravoso il lavoro con i (mai abbastanza odiati) filtri digitali. Certo, a leggere la speranza è già bella che abbandonata, ma preferisco vedere prima di rassegnarmi. Poi la scelta sarà se prendere un BD con il vecchissimo Mpeg 2 o un BD dove tutto sembra fatto di gomma...
