34UC79G

walk on

2560x1080 144hzThe LG34UC79G is set to be the World's first 34" Ultrawide with a 144Hz refresh rate IPS panel. Before you get too exciting, this isn't the first screen to offer 3440 x 1440 at 144Hz sadly, but instead sticks to a smaller 2560 x 1080 resolution. The screen does mark the arrival of the first high refresh rate IPS panel from LG.Display though which should be interesting, as previous screens (ignoring the overclocked IPS LG.Display panels up to 100Hz) with native high refresh rates have come from AU Optronics and their rival AHVA technology. We knew about this LG.Display 144Hz IPS panel production back in June, and this 1080p resolution panel went in to production in August. The 1440p version isn't expected to go in to production until Q1 2017 so there's still a fair wait before we will see 3440 x 1440 @ 144Hz IPS panels we're afraid. Those will also require DP 1.3 / 1.4 interfaces to function as well which have yet to be incorporated in any announced monitor.
The screen is curved, with a 3800R curvature and offers a 4ms G2G response time, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 300 cd/m2 brightness, 8-bit colour depth and 178/178 viewing angles. AMD FreeSync support is available and LG also talk about their "one millisecond blur reduction feature" which we gather will be a strobing blur reduction backlight integrated in to the screen (not available at the same time as FreeSync).
There are also a couple of other gaming extras added. There is DAS (Dynamic Action Sync), which apparently minimises input lag, and the ‘Black Stabilizer’ which artificially boosts dark shades so they appear lighter and more detail is available in dark areas. The monitor also offers a crosshair option which adds a fixed target to the center of the screen to increase accuracy during FPS games and a mouse line hook to prevent drag resistance caused by the mouse’s cable.
Tilt and height adjustments are offered from the stand. There are DisplayPort, 2x HDMI and 2x USB 3.0 ports offered (one with fast charging support). The screen is flicker free also.
Visitors to the LG booth (Hall 18) at IFA 2016 will be able to experience LG’s new 21:9 UltraWide monitors for themselves from September 2-7. No word on price or availability yet.
