Mediaplayer 4K Cloud Media Popcorn Hour A-500 PRO: il leader ha ripreso il suo posto!

Il firmware ufficiale è passato dal primo di maggio a quello di luglio.
Siamo quindi lontani dai tre beta e dalla release candidate che ho pubblicato qui qualche giorno fa. A strettissimo giro dal rilascio di una RC, infatti, viene distribuita la release ufficiale.

A breve vedremo cosa accade lato Android/Chameleon, non prima di aver rispolverato la discussione sul Chameleon, che costituisce un'ottima base di partenza per la quantità di informazioni mutuabili anche qui.

Inserita la memoria SD in dotazione nello slot, attivato lo switch laterale per ora andiamo piuttosto male: per motivi imperscrutabili intanto l'immagine NON viene presentata a tutto schermo, come il Chameleon.



Per ora non ho trovato nemmeno "dove" aggiornare il firmware: nel Chameleon era foolproof, a prova di idiota. Voglio infatti installare il firmware del 12 agosto e quello (che dal log risulta OTA) del 13 settembre.

Non so se consolarmi per il fatto che nel bootstrap appare il "magico logo"!



Provvidamente si è passati da KitKat 4.x a Marshmallow 6.0.1, saltando a pie' pari Lollipop 5.0.



Appena ho qualche minuto approfondisco.

Sto valutanto se prendere l'oggetto in questione per visionare full iso blu ray e filmati 4k e avrei alcune domande.
spero che mi possiate aiutare

1) quale e' il modo piu' veloce da pc per poter uploadare sul disco interno del popcorn file di grosse dimensioni ? stiamo parlando di files oltre i 30 GB per intenderci.
2) con le iso blu ray sapete se gestisce anche i menu iniziali o se un po' come nvidia shield, leggele singole traccia ma senza menu iniziali ?
3) parlando della versione PRO, dato che interessandomi il 4k sarebbe quella che prenderei in considerazione, sapete se gestisce senza problemi l'atmos?
4) qualcuno ha esperienza con i modelli precedenti sulle connessioni wireless? che chiavetta esterna consigliate?

1) Via cavo ethernet... ha una scheda gigabit ed anche con un hdd lento in scrittura (come un WD Green)
30 giga li uplodi in un tempo decente (facendo altro col pc, viaggio a circa 2gb al minuto)

2) no menù, solo singole tracce

3) ehm... per il 4k non ti serve il pro, basta A-500, dal lato video sono identici...
il pro ha in più le uscite analogiche RCA, XLR e cuffie.. mai provato ATMOS

4) col 400 andavo di wireless, ma ogni tanto avevo problemi, sui file più "pesanti", ma più che colpa
della macchina, era colpa della rete... avendo connesso 2 tv, 3 o 4 cellulari, 2 tablet, una ps3, più chissa che
magari, in certi momenti in cui qualcosa fa aggiornamento o backup può capitare di non avere abbastanza banda
o mandare in crisi il router... passato al cavo ethernet, mai avuto problemi in lettura/scrittura da pc o nas

Probabilmente in caso di scelta non acquisterò la versione pro del popcorn hour a500 ma solo la "base".

Cambia che il pro ha uscite audio con connettori bilanciati Cannon/XLR ed è due macchine in uno. Ha un dual boot che gli consente di essere un Chameleon evoluto o un 500 di base.

scusa ma non sono molto ferrato, sono rimasto al c-200 potresti spiegare in breve le 2 differenze? I connettori XLR servono solo per non perdere qualità nella lunga distanza o cambia anche l'elaborazione audio?
Cos'è un Chameleon?

A-500 e A-500 Pro condividono il lato più tipicamente Popcorn Hour, quello più user friendly, che parte dal vecchissimo A-100 e via via arriva sino ai giorni nostri.

Le uscite bilanciate dell'A-500 Pro (che principalmente vengono utilizzate proprio per quel che dici), in effetti garantiscono anche una maggiore reiezione dei disturbi e dispongono di un volume di +6db che per certi pre o per certi finali può voler dire tanto, anzi tantissimo.

La differenza è che si passa alla release 4.4 (mi sembra, KitKat) alla 6.0 di Android. La piattaforma, così come nel Chameleon, consente di visualizzare ad esempio Netflix in UHD/4K.

Al momento faccio presente che lo sviluppo della piattaforma Android su questa macchina è acerbo. Inoltre, in generale l'uso di un mediaplayer Android, come sanno ormai anche le pietre, richiede un coefficiente di smanettamento molto diverso da quello necessario ad utilizzare i normali mediaplayer. Inviterei quindi a NON acquistare questa macchina se lo si fa sulla base dell'attuale coefficiente di sviluppo della parte Android. Per fortuna successe lo stesso anche per il Chameleon e in breve le cose sono nettamente migliorate. Anche se il fatto mi meraviglia sempre un po', considerando il fatto che questa è una macchina oggettivamente unica, ma anche decisamente costosa nel panorama mondiale dei mediaplayer...

Da quello che dici, quando sarà il momento (il mio c-200 sta cedendo ma finche va lo tengo stretto) mi sa che opterò per l'A500 "normale". Tanto lo collego a un Onkyo 505 che non ha particolari esigenze...
Se ho capito bene l'android sarebbe il famoso Kodi, giusto? Peccato sia acerbo perché mi interesserebbe abbastanza, solo che non so se ne vale la differenza di prezzo...
Una domanda: tra i 2 sistemi operativi la qualità video/audio cambia?

Android è un sistema operativo derivante da Linux. E' stato reso noto per il suo utilizzo dentro i cellulari, ma viene usato per una miriade di altri aggeggi, così come l'iOS di Apple.

Kodi (e il suo spinoff SPMC) sono programmi che, installati su cellulari, tablet, TV o mediaplayer consentono di visualizzare file audio o video su rete o su altro supporto (chiavetta, hard disk locali etc.).

La qualità apparente tra i due sistemi mi sembra identica. Il vantaggio di Android è che permette di installare Netflix anche in UHD/HDR e immagino in futuro in UHD/HDR anche Amazon Prime e così via. Inoltre è ampiamente customizzabile con la miriade di app presenti sul Google store.

Android è un sistema operativo derivante da Linux. E' stato reso noto per il suo utilizzo dentro i cellulari, ma viene usato per una miriade di altri aggeggi, così come l'iOS di Apple.

mi stuzzica abbastanza sto kodi, peccato non ci sia sull'A-500 non pro, quest'ultimo è fuori budget... Ciò mi farebbe propendere per la shield di nvidia...
Vediamo quando sarà ora, spero duri ancora un po' il C-200 così intanto magari i prezzi scendono.
Ultima cosa: lo switch tra linux e kodi è veloce o bisogna riavviare il dispositivo?

La shield di nVIDIA è un'ottimo mediaplayer, il cui principale difetto è l'essere purtroppo strutturato più come una consolle da gioco Android e il non avere le connessioni audio spdif.

Se intendi lo switch tra "lato Popcorn tradizionale" e "lato Chameleon Android" devi riavviare il dispositivo e spostare uno switch posizionato sul lato destro.
