Sembra essere molto interessante, ma non ho capito se è un prodotto nuovo appena uscito in america, oppure se non viene importato in europa.

Per chi può interessare, verrà commercializzato in italia a partire da metà ottobre e il costo dovrebbe aggirarsi intorno a € 120,00 (versione senza hard disck freeagent go 500 GB).

Attendo con impazienza qualche recensione che ne testi la validità, visto
che come dichiarato oltre a supportare i vari formati hd, legge le iso dei dvd permettendo di navigare nei menù.
Cosa quest'ultima dichiarata da vari lettori da me provati ma mai perfettamente supportata.

Seagate built this second-gen FreeAgent Theater+ to be equally Mac and PC friendly, and to decode any video file you throw at it, regardless of resolution, framerate or other variable. Despite a crappy interface, the mission is a genuine success.

The Price
$150 without drive; $290 with 500GB drive included.

The Praise
As I mentioned, the video decoding on this is better than anything I've ever seen in a $150 box. The Theater+ is very comfortable with HD video, not only because of its HDMI output but because when I dumped some QuickTime 1080p movie trailers on a drive and docked it, the trailers played back without a single hiccup. Ditto for high-def MKVs I downloaded from the DivX 7 showcase. If you encoded a video with subtitles or variable audio tracks, the choice appears up when you hit the menu button during playback. And disc images of DVDs? It's like there's a real live DVD in there, only there isn't!

Some more coolness: It remembers where you are in a movie, so you don't have to worry about stopping then coming back and having to find your place, even when you're viewing a DVD image. And since it's connected, it can hop on your NAS drives to pick up movies and other files. Again, no problems playing back. (Note: I didn't try the wireless option, which will sell separately for $70 later on—I used Ethernet through a Linksys powerline adapter).

The chart of accepted video codecs is long, but unlike most players of this price range, there are very few fine-print exceptions. What can't you play? Very very low-rez (viral) WMVs got the ix-nay—higher rez WMVs play just fine. What else? DVD disc images in the .img format don't show up, but switching a .img to the supported .iso is surprisingly easy. That's it. It didn't brick any other assorted video in my library, out of hundreds of files.

The Scorn
I won't lie, the interface on this baby is pretty heinous. It's media manager circa 2002, which means that I would expressly stay away from photos and music, despite its ability to read any of those files too. Movies are good because you don't need a lot of browsing—I just switched it from the ridiculously blocky "thumbnail" view to a standard list view, and skimmed my movies in alphabetical order. The good news is, you can change filenames to make it look a little prettier: dont_tempt_me.m4v becomes Don't Tempt Me.m4v.

I also wouldn't bother with Seagate's media manager software for "syncing" content to the hard drive. Maybe run it once for it to set up a folder structure on your drive, then copy video files over to it to your heart's content. You don't even have to use a FreeAgent Go drive, though it looks nice, nestled in there. You can plug just about any drive (NTFS, HFS+ or FAT are all fine, format wise) into a USB port, and navigate to it through the "devices" list.

As I mentioned, this is a networked device, but the internet options are as of now pretty lame: A non-personalized Flickr feed, a Picasa widget, a stock ticker and a weather program, all of which are bargain basement plug-ins. Call me when Netflix and Pandora arrive.

The Verdict
What do I personally want? A basic video player that can read the 150 to 200 DVDs I ripped in H.264 to save space, plus all of the crap that Apple TV and the lesser media adapters seem to have a problem with. Video should be either local or on a NAS, and I shouldn't have to worry about codecs or resolutions or any of the crap others seem to freak out about. I don't need help with music or photos—it's strictly about movies and longer-form TV. Because of that, I am a fan of this little box. Once it starts shipping, I encourage you to check it out. Just heed the following rules:

• Don't buy the 500GB drive bundle for $290—Amazon sells the 500GB FreeAgent Go right now for $106, so there's no way the bundle makes sense (as currently priced).
• And don't accidentally go buying the old FreeAgent Theater. It's my understanding that the first go 'round wasn't so pretty. From the looks of this massive overhaul, Seagate probably should have done more than just add a plus sign. [Product page; Amazon sales page]

In Brief

Udite udite, sono finalmente riuscito ad acquistarne uno, mi è arrivato ieri sera, montato e testato velocemente, mi ha impressionato positivamente, non facendomi rimpiangere il mio vecchio wd media player.

A prima vista sembrano pervenire dallo stesso progetto, naturalmente con le personalizzazioni del marchio che lo commercializza, sia a livello di hardware che di software dovrebbe essere la stessa revisione del wd media player 2 o perlomeno uno stretto parente,

La cosa che apprezzo di più di questo prodotto è di poter collegare hd esterno usb direttamente sul media player e non con l'ausilio di cavi che chi come me ha dei bambini piccoli, possono provocare spiacevoli conseguenze, perchè preda della loro istintiva voglia di prendere e tirare qualsiasi cosa gli capita a tiro.

Oltre a questo la possibilità di comprare con una modica spesa la doc per collegarlo istantaniamente al pc così da scaricare tutti i contenuti multimediali che uno desidera.

O notato che sia da spento ( comunque come il WD non è presente un interruttore on / off) che da acceso, scalda pochissimo nonostante non sia presente alcuna ventula di raffreddamento.

a breve vi darò le mie impressioni sull comportemento con i film in HD.

Sono alquanto curioso di sapere come si comporta.
Sembra un buon concorrente del wd live e dell' extreme , interessante.
Con la continua uscita di modelli allo stesso livello di prezzo ci vorrebbero delle comparative per giudicare il migliore. anche per potersi districare nella scelta.

Non capisco cosa intendi per indietro dal punto di vista audio se puoi essere più preciso, secondo me è al pari dei suoi concorrenti attualmente sul mercato e sulla stessa fascia di prezzo, ha l'uscita ottico digitale che può essere sfruttata per collegarlo alle centraline dolby digital che sono sprovviste dell' hdmi, oppure usare il collegamento hdmi con il televisore e il collegamento dal televisore alla centralina per far un collegamento passante.

Oggi ho provato un iso di un dvd, nel quale c'era un filmato che ha l'audio in 5.1 ed è funzionato perfettamente con la seconda opzione che ti ho illustrato, visto che anche io ho una centralina senza hdmi.

intendo indietro rispetto ad un lettore stand alone. Ormai quasi tutti sono in grado di processare e veicolare le codifiche hd tramite le uscite analog 7.1, caratteristica per me irrinunciabile, visto che non ho la minima intenzione di cambiare ampli...
Se facessero uscire uno di questi accrocchi completo di tale caratteristica lo prenderei al volo...

qualcuno sa se l'apparato riesce a leggere da share su NAS (in particolare, io ho una Synology D209), ove non sia consentito accesso "guest" ma solo tramite autenticazione (user/password)?

non trovo documentazione in merito alla possibilità di questo apparato di riprodurre contenuti online (youtube, google vids, ecc..) come altri (tipo Xtreamer, Asus)... Qualcuno sa indicarmi link sull'argomento, o (meglio ancora) esperienze personali? Sto per comprare questo o l'Xtreamer e non vorrei sbagliare

Come promesso sono riuscito a testare il giocattolino con filmati demo sia in hd che in full hd e si è comportato molto bene senza indecisioni nella riproduzione è con una fluidità d'immagine impressionante.

Devo dire che sono sempre più soddisfatto dell' acquisto, l'unica pecca che ho riscontrato è la non perfetta gestione da parte del firmware degli adattatori usb wireless, nonostante nel menù ci sia la possibilità di configurargli, credo a quanto ho potuto capire nel forum ufficiale americano, che Seagate a breve rilascerà un adattatore proprietario che risolverà il problema.

Purtroppo no, ho cercato anche io in giro per la rete se qualcuno lo aveva aperto per verificare che chipset montasse, perchè la Seagate al momento è molto parca di informazioni tecniche sul prodotto, comunque non ho trovato niente, forse è ancora presto, visto che è stato consegnato per la vendita il 15/10.

Credo comunque vista la fascia di prezzo che sia un Realtek e come già da me detto alcuni post sopra, lo scatolotto secondo me è stretto parente se non fratello gemello a livello hardware del nuovo Wd media player 2.

Oggi Seagate ha aggiornato il firmware del dispositivo implementando il supporto per You Tube e migliorando la parte relativa alle gestione del dispositivo in rete.

Questo sono le prime cose che mi sono balzate all'occhio, visto che ancora sul sito ufficiale non è stata inserita nessuna comunicazione.

Ho avuto un pò di tempo per testare il nuovo aggiornamento, hanno aggiunto nella parte dedicata ad internet, il supporto a youtube, che funziona davvero bene, con la possibilità di selezionare il paese degli utenti di cui si vuole visionare i filmati, la ricerca degli stessi, oppure gli ultimi inseriti, i più visionati ecc, hanno aggiunto anche i feed RRS video e i feed RRS testuali, ed è stata migliorata la fluidità di esecuzione dei comandi.
Oltre a questo è stato inserito la possibilità di selezionare la ricerca degli aggiornamenti in automatico, ed infine è stata migliorata la parte dedicata alle gestione delle risorse di rete.
E credo ma non ne sono sicuro è stato inserita la selezione manuale delle risoluzione dell'ucita video HDMI.

l'attuale relase del firmware è la 1.25.270595E

Il prodotto in questione mi interessa molto come network media player per pensionare il caro freecom 3.5 kit....
Sono intenzionato ad acquistarlo al volo, però mi servirebbero un paio di info:

1) confermate che legge i menù dei file iso?
2) qualcuno ha provato a farlo connettere ad un pc con windows 7? cambio il freecom proprio per questo motivo, non c'è verso di farlo funzionare
