Il famoso codec H.264 si veste del nuovo supporto MBAFF, modalità utilizzata in special modo dagli attuali canali HD satellitari.

CoreAVC/DS Filters
Let me explain the system for a possible future CoreAVC that would "tie" the installed copy of CoreAVC to specific hardware. There have been many misconceptions listed here about what this system will do, how it will work, etc.

First off, this system is being instituted for a number of reasons. CoreCodec, as a H.264 patent licensee, has royalties which must be paid, depending on the number of units distributed. These patent licenses have a variety of terms (depends on which patent), which place obligations on CoreCodec. These obligations include (in some cases) security requirements for access control, as well as reporting requirements. Part of the design of the system is to allow us to kill off older versions of the software and issue updates when they become available.

The upcoming system is also designed to be as minimally invasive as possible. Like the current version of CoreAVC, each user will be provided with a custom-built installer. This installer will contain a serial number, just like the current version does. For internet-connected users (most of you, since you have to be online to download and purchase CoreAVC), the installer will take care of everything automatically. For users installing on computers which are not connected to the internet, you will need to (one time) visit a single URL, and enter in a short hardware code.

CoreAVC will generate a hardware hash, which is designed to be very tolerant of hardware changes, but unlikely to work on other machines. An automated system will be set up to allow you to "clear" your account a limited number of times (for moving from one machine to another, or for severe hardware changes). If additional changes need to be authorized, you can simply drop us an email, and one of us will respond within 24 hours.

Although this system is partially designed to combat piracy, it's primary purpose is to (hopefully, still have to get the lawyers involved) allow us to provide free updates to CoreAVC, (rather than having to pay patent royalties on every version). The old copy doesn't get destroyed until the new one is installed (no retroactive deactivation of copies). We're not like starforce - no drivers are installed, and no other programs are affected outside CoreAVC. We don't force updates down your throat, deactivate old copies until new ones are installed, add any services, phone home every run, or run other programs when CoreAVC is not in use. For the vast majority of users, it won't ever be an issue, as they will never see any dialogs, get told they can't do something, or have to even type in a cd-key. As for us building an invasive hardware profile, there simply isn't enough data passed to be an issue. For example, your CD-ROM is assigned a number of 1-7, based on which model you have. Put simply, even if we look at the number for your CD-ROM, you still share the identifier with 1/7 of all the CD-ROM models out there (thousands).

Alcuni commenti a caldo

I'm testing CoreAVC with the BBC "Planet Earth BBC HD" content and for now I get much better quality deinterlacing and stable playback on the PowerDVD7 decoder than with CoreAVC. I'm using an AMD X2 4400+ and ATI X1800XT. Disabling deinterlacing and deblocking completely gives me somewhat similar framerate as I get with Cyberlink with everything on. Any toughts what to do?

CoreAVC 1.1 works perfectly for me watching BBC HD live.
I am using a Dell 5150 Pentium 820 2.8 Ghz Dual Core.

With the new CoreAVC 1.1 on BBC test material/Planet Earth;

Only get smooth playback with No Deblocking and Double Framerate. Of course, without the deblocking some scenes look worse than they should. Any other options don't give me full framerate.

CPU is Athlon X2 4200+

I'm sure once the BBC and other channels start using sane bitrates, playback will be smoother.

Not for me. Its slightly jerky still. This is using dvbviewer, so it might be that thats the problem I dunno.

On my P4 3.2C, as i said earlier, it provides a smooth playback for a 10Mbits stream (FTV HD), but i have to deactivate the deblocking.

Watch out too for the crc on the stream: FTV HD has a very poor crc (2/3) while TF1 HD has a higher crc (1/2)

ho acquistato i core 1.1 ... ero troppo curioso di provarli

devo dire che sono tiratissimo con la cpu , 100% fisso ma riesco a vedere fluido senza blocchi , sono contentissimo per ora.

la mia configurazione è :
athlon 64 3200+ , 1Gb ram , Ati x1600 pro 256mb Agp , dvbviewer pro 3.4.11.2 settato come overlay mixer in video render e il codec coreavc settato su "skip all deblocking" "directshow deinterlacing"

ovviamente parlo di BBC HD

Provato su M6 per la partita di Polonia - Ecuador (HotBird 13°, transponder 10834 V 27500; vedi qui). Consuma, mi sembra, decisamente meno dei Cyberlink ma ho problemi di deinterlacing: impostato di default su software, i difetti di deinterlacciamento sono evidenti. Ho provato a mettere il deinterlacing DirectShow e mi son beccato un bug che credo affligga DVBViewer ed NVIDIA (vedi qui).

Vabbeh, continuo ad affinare i miei tests

Grazie, farò delle prove domani. Ho spento il VPR ed in overlay, in remoto, il video non passa ( ) quindi non so se ho risolto così.

Cmq a qualità - definizione contorni e colore - e consumi, rispetto ai CyberLink, CoreAVC mi sembra un gran bel pezzo di software, davvero.

Io l'ho acquistato e provato con i canali skyhd e mi sembrano meglio i cyberlink con accelerazione hardware. I canali con risoluzione 1920x1080 sul mio pc sono inguardabili (amd 3000 @ 2475 mhz) con fps ridicoli (8-9), ma sto usando dvbviewer in remoto e non vorrei che i canali di sky con streaming a 20 Mbit/s soffrissero rallentamenti dovuti alla rete wifi.

Ehm, rettifico i consumi che risultano così superiori - direi un 20% - ai Cyberlink (avevo tralasciato di spuntare la DXVA) ma continuo a confermare la maggiore bontà di CoreAVC che risulta, almeno sulla mia configurazione, più fluido dei Cyberlink (sebbene il consumo si aggiri attorno al 90%). Il problema di deinterlacing si presenta invece in VMR9 mentre è esente in Overlay. Un difetto che mi sembra di aver notato è il rosso sparato - a sbavare - ma potrei attribuirlo anche al bilanciamento a default dei driver NVIDIA... boh farò qualche ulteriore prova.

Tutto questo su M6 HD (BBC HD purtroppo lo aggancio ma non abbastanza da essere costante vediamo domani con la nuova scheda in arrivo). Cmq, a me sto H.264, in alcuni frangenti è davvero penoso (spero sia un problema di bitrate del canale francese, anche se mi sembra di aver capito che qualcuno lo reputi solamente "leggermente" inferiore a SKY, se è così ci si accontenta di poco )

Confermo seconda ipotesi . Sono gli NVIDIA.

Nuova release all'orizzonte

Subito in cantiere nuova release a risoluzione di alcuni bugs e implementazione nuovo Haali. Uscita prevista tra mercoledì e giovedì.
