La nota (e molto costosa) piattaforma hardware e software per l'archiviazione e riproduzione dei film annuncia l'avvio, negli Stati Uniti, del servizio VOD "Kaleidescape Store" che promette nei prossimi mesi la possibilità di acquistare e scaricare film in qualità Blu-ray

Non è tanto per i limiti territoriali, quando che per il momento hai una softeca solo Americana in attesa che anche gli altri Paesi possano essere inclusi nelle release, a livello di disponibilità.

Se è vero che il Kaleidescape si rivolge ad un'utenza internazionale, è anche vero che in effetti un Cliente ha il diritto di vedersi ed ascoltarsi il film nella sua propria lingua d'origine se lo desidera.

Non sono d'accordo con la nota di Gian Luca sul fatto che sia "costoso", quando di fatto è l'unico ed il solo che ha queste caratteristiche, soprattutto di affidabilità (8 stream contemporanei FullHD di 8 contenuti identici shiftati di un secondo l'uno dall'altro, o di 8 contenuti diversi), di upgrade software a vita, di collegamento col service e di legalità. Assoluta.

Non a caso è specificato di default in yacht ed abitazioni di lusso dove il Cliente lo ha già magari conosciuto.

Like all manufacturers of DVD players, Kaleidescape has a license to use the Content Scramble System (CSS) from the DVD Copy Control Association (DVD CCA). CSS is the method used to scramble video and audio data on DVDs. In 2004, the DVD CCA sued Kaleidescape for breach of contract, claiming the Kaleidescape System violates the CSS license agreement because it copies DVDs to hard disks and enables playback without the DVD disc being present.

On March 29, 2007, Judge Leslie C. Nichols of the California Superior Court ruled that Kaleidescape was in full compliance with the CSS license agreement. As part of his statement of decision, Judge Nichols noted Kaleidescape's good faith in its efforts to ensure that its products were fully compliant.

The DVD CCA appealed, and on August 12, 2009, the California 6th District Court of Appeal remanded the matter back to the trial court.

On March 8, 2012, Judge William J. Monahan of the California Superior Court ruled in favor of the DVD CCA and issued an injunction (that did not come into effect) that states that any Kaleidescape System sold after the effective date of the injunction should not play a DVD from a copy on hard disk.

On July 20, 2012, the California 6th District Court of Appeal granted Kaleidescape's petition for a writ of supersedeas. The writ stays the injunction that was issued by the Superior Court. As a result, Kaleidescape will be able to continue manufacturing and selling Kaleidescape Systems with their current features while the appeal is pending. The appeal process may take a year or more.

Io decisamente no, anche perché l'ultima frase che hai quotato è molto più che significativa e "nell'ambiente" si sa già che il tutto tornerà a più miti consigli proprio perché esiste uno storico di questo Brand ed il fatto che abbia aperto uno store per il VOD ne è la diretta conseguenza.

Detto questo, se hai dubbi su questa piattaforma, "le altre" non dovrebbero neppure essere presenti sul mercato internazionale.

Immagino che mai l'appello fosse in favore di DVD CCA, Kaleidescape potrebbe rimuovere la funzione di "copia privata" sugli HDD dei suoi sistemi e limitarsi ad offrire l'acquisto dei file via lo store... in effetti sarebbero l'unico store ad offrire qualità e contenuti identici ai media ottici.

Further downloads will also include all of the extras that were found on the physical disc: bonus features, making of documentaries, deleted scenes, alternate endings, commentaries, subtitles and language tracks. If it was on the disc, it will be included with the download.

Inoltre, hanno una carta di non poco conto da giocarsi contro gli altri servizi, se acquisti il titolo dal loro store, ti viene fornita la possibilità di avare anche la licenza UltraViolet per lo streaming sui device mobili (e gli altri player UV-enabled)

Any title purchased that is UltraViolet-enabled (roughly two-thirds of the Warner content to date) will be made simultaneously made available for viewing on mobile devices. Il sistema è davvero interessante. Un motivo in più per fare un salto ad Amsterdam a fine gennaio qui dato che sono nella lista degli espositori.

On June 2, 2014, Kaleidescape and the DVD Copy Control Association reached a settlement in a decade-long court battle over customers' right to import DVDs onto the company's server, and then play the content without inserting a disc. As a result of the agreement, Kaleidescape systems sold after November 14, 2014, will no longer import CSS-protected DVDs.

Purtroppo, come avevo scritto inizialmente in questo thread, si è concretizzato il peggio. Rimossa la possibilità di importare i DVD.
