"Unfortunately, only after shipping the products we found several hardware related problems in M-6500A. And it needs to be repaired.
Below are the list of problems known until now.
1. Problem : Heat related (#1)
When HDD is not present inside the box, the unit will have incorrect air flow and the set will be overheated and picture will not be displayed.
Solution : Dummy HDD should be inserted and we are preparing it.
2. Problem : Heat related (#2)
Even when HDD is inserted, we observe a few M-6500A units becoming unstable due to heat.
Our recommended maximum operating temperature is 35 degrees C similar to other Blue-Ray players.
There is a chance of few units becoming unstable even at 35 degrees C, even though all the sets we tested here works fine up to 40 degrees C. I do not think 5 degrees is a good margin.
Solution 1. : Increase the FAN speed.
Solution 2 : Put a heat sink on the CPU(SMP8635).
We will use both the methods, because using solution 1 will make TViX too noisy and using solution 2 can only help cool the CPU not other parts of the unit.
*** To avoid the heat problem, we recommend the usage of M-6500A to be in a cool environment.
If you place M-6500A inside the cabinets, the internal temperature will rise and in turn the placed M-6500A may suffer from the heat problems.
If you place M-6500A on the top of hot devices like amplifiers, it becomes hot and may face problems.
In open environment conditions having room temperature of below 25 degree C, the M-6500A will work fine noiselessly.
3. Problem : Clock related
TViX clock will be reset after a few hours of power off.
It was designed to last for at least a week or 2-4 weeks on an average, in the power off state.
The reason for the clock resetting after a few hours of power off, was mainly due to the wrong selection of a particular component(Diode).
Solution : replace the wrong diode with the correct one.
4. Problem : Not powering ON of the TViX with remote transceiver
Occasionally, M-6500A do not turn ON with remote transceiver.
Solution : It was a design error. And we need to solder one resistor between the two points.
5. Problem : High return rate of working with USB target. (always USB ON)
Solution : This problem seems to be related to ESD and due to this, a component needs to be removed which was used wrongly. This has to be followed by doing rework to make it less susceptible to ESD.
To fix all the above issues, the user needs to send his unit to a temporary AS center in Europe(and US).
The temporary AS center’s location is not determined yet and we are talking to a few of our distributors for help.
We are really sorry, but we cannot just issue a document to all the distributors for fixing on your own. This is mainly because the fixing points is are many and it needs special equipments to do it.
Due to this, we are planning to send our engineers to temporary AS center when it is decided, to supervise and help the repair processes.
We understand that this is 100% our fault and DViCO will bear two way shipping charges and costs for repair.
We’d like to announce this officially next week on our WEBSITE, so that the current customers can understand the situation and in turn will not be frustrated as they are not hearing anything from us.
Before we ask the customers to send their units, all the related parts should be sent to the temporary AS centre in Europe and this AS process can only begin after 4 weeks.
Slim heat sink is the bottle neck and this will takes time because it is a custom made and we have just started to make tooling.
If you have any other questions or if you know any other problems which you suspect is related to hardware, please do let us know immediately, so that we can investigate it.
We are really sorry for this and apologize for all the trouble and inconveniences."
