[Conceptronic] Yuixx
Salve a tutti,
Press Releases:
Metrological: http://www.metrological.com/node/press/
Conceptronic: http://www.conceptronic.net/site/des...id=310&ni=2807

The Yuixx is being developed together with software specialist Metrological. Conceptronic reportedly has a huge archive of the most exotic file formats, and developer Metrological was instructed to ensure all of it would play on the upcoming product. This is good news for people who have video and audio files in formats not previously supported (properly) by other manufacturers. The CE3100 is powerful enough to run a multiple (internet) applications at once. The Yuixx will offer an Intel/Yahoo widget channel (which is also available in the last generation Samsung televisions), but also applications specifically geared towards European consumers. These may include localized weather forecasts, traffic information and the latest local news. These widgets can be built using HTML and JavaScript, and Conceptronic intends to enable users to build their own widgets. According to hardware.info the Yuixx also features a complete Firefox based web browser as part of the standard firmware.
Some leaked specs:
- 33MB Memory usage of the whole browser application
- Only 2~6% CPU usage is being used by the browser application
- Just 1.2 seconds Onetime startup of the browser application
This Application is running at 1080p @ 60Hz, natively on the OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG of the Intel CE 3100 processor.
Enough power is left for other applications like: Multiple Applications in the Widget Channel, Samba, NFS etc.

The Yuixx will be released in three different models. A streamer, which primarily acts as a media receiver and will be sold without a harddisk. It will be possible for consumers to install a 3.5 inch disk after purchase. The second version, a player, which will be sold with a hard drive as well as 802.11n wireless network capabilities. The Yuixx can act as a media server when a disk is installed. The last variant provides TV viewing capabilities courtesy of an included TV tuner. The tuner type will vary depending on the country where the player is sold but the hardware design allows for two DVB-T, DVB-S or DVB-C tuners. Focus is currently on DVB-T models so people waiting for DVB-S or DVB-C tuners will have to wait a while.

The YuiXX will be there in 3 different versions:
- Streamer
- model 1 including HDD and Wireless 802.11n
- model 2 including dual DVB-T
All devices will or can have different widgets implemented (we will call it: application channel) especially for Conceptronic.
This application channel will grow and grow with more widgets and can be added by performing an firmware updates. (You will need to activate the YuiXX so that you will always use the latest firmware. Or payments could be possible (depends on the application to be installed or used).
As shown in a previous blog posting at this site: a Mozilla browser will be inside.
Our YuiXX board is prepared for different DVB cards. We also have space reserved for a smart card reader to use for pay TV.
Conceptronic will have different selling models:
- Model 1: our retail versions of Conceptronic with where we will update new functions and additional services like VoD.
- Model 2: Some Telcos or ISPs want to bundle their services with our retailbox of Conceptronic. This can be done via IPTV, DVB or as through special widget/applications. (You want to create your own widget to be implemented?
- Model 3; we make a tailor made version of Conceptronic with DVB-C or DVB-S/2 for certain countries in combination with a Telco or ISP or content provider
- Model 4: we make a tailor made version for a Telco/ISP/ODM or content provider based on our platform.
Also we will create an accessory line around the YuiXX and we will come with more solutions later this year also based on new Intel solutions.

Dal Forum di HDLand (tradotto su MPC Club):
FYI, we presented the machine at the show "Hifi and Home Cinema WE" along with Conceptronic. The interface is really great from my point of view (the best ever seen so far). The machine we had was a prototype with a few bugs but the features are there. It's possible to have network shortcuts (UPnP, SMB, NFS), the interface is in full HD, it will be possible to have the WiFi option and a HD dual tuner (DVB-T). Later, it will be possible to get a version with a dual tuner for either satellite or cable (DVB-S or DVB-C). Subtitles on M2TS (PGS) are not supported yet but they are currently working on it. For DTS and Dolby Digital Plus, licenses are being acquired. Macrovision licenses have already been acquired. They seem to do everything by the rules in any case, this is not true for all Chinese companies ...
There is apparently a card reader for pay channels. Testing will be needed for Canal Plus and Fransat cards to see if it works well.
The company is dutch and Conceptronic people are real pros who know their business. They work directly with Intel on development.
For the moment, Wydgets are solely provided by Yahoo but Conceptronic is currently developing their own Wydgets. On the other hand, a community of users will be established to develop new Wydget (HTML) and the designers will be paid by the number of use of wydgets (very good move).
