Terminator 2 per WMP9: discutiamone
Premessa.
Svelato l'arcano:
T2 is encoded at 1440x816p *anamorphic*. The player will stretch this
to 1920x816p at playback. The 1440 resolution as some of you know, is
the same as professional HDCam cameras which is used to shoot a lot of
film projects in digital.
We could have used 1920 horizontal resolution but that made it hard to
play on a lot of PCs. Also, we were limited by the space on the DVD
once again although not as bad as Shadows. This time, the data rate is
around 6 Mbit/sec which is roughly the same as the standard resolution
MPEG-2 DVD yet we are carrying 3.5X+ more pixels.
We made this even harder on ourselves by limiting the encoding to
constant bitrate (CBR). This keeps the peaks down enabling playback on
P4 machines >= 2.4 Ghz. Athlon XP 2600 plays well, but the 2100 does
not (sorry, don't have numbers in between). Note that CBR means that
we are at a disadvantage compared to the VBR used on the MPEG-2
standard def. But having just done the comparison to D-VHS, I am
feeling pretty good about our quality .
And just confirming, we are using progressive encoding, not interlace
(the source is in progressive). So there is no 1080i but your PC will
be happy to output this for you should you set it up this way.

Chissa'...
