A partire dal prossimo 5 novembre, sarà resa disponibile in USA l'"Extended Edition" del primo capitolo della trilogia di "Lo Hobbit" di Peter Jackson. Un'edizione con 13 minuti di scene aggiuntive e ben 9 ore di contenuti speciali. Dal punto di vista tecnico, l'Extended dovrebbe mantenere le stesse caratteristiche dell'edizione "cinematografica" con audio originale DTS HD Master Audio 7.1 canali. Saranno proposte due edizioni Blu-ray: la standard da 3 dischi che includerà il Blu-ray 2D, il Blu-ray "extra" e la copia UltraViolet; la "combo pack" da 5 dischi con in più anche la copia 3D del film, sempre in versione estesa.
