4.22 firmware update for the picture optimizer plus II (SDI) - free of charge
Today marks the first official availability of a new firmware update for the picture optimizer plus II (SDI) models. It can be downloaded and installed free of charge from the internet.
The new firmware ensures, apart from the three new functions, also a still faster, more stable handling, so that we absolutely recommend an update!
*** New function: direct input control of the cinemateq "HDMI extension box" ***
A cinemateq HDMI extension box attached to the picture optimizer plus II (SDI) (with 2 or 4 HDMI inputs) can now be directly controlled by using the scaler's silver IR remote.
The extension box connected to the scaler via an RS-232 cable is switched directly using the key combination "option B" and "1 to 4". Advantage: the scaler, functioning as a central controller (in addition to the SDTV sources directly connected to the scaler), passes up to three HDTV sources to a display with an HDCP capable DVI or HDMI input. Thus your home cinema permits future extension to HDTV-AV switching (up to 1080p HDTV including S/PIF digital audio).
Note: older scalers with a black remote can also be used with the silver remote (after optional modification at the cinemateq support center).
*** New "screensaver" function ***
From firmware 4.22 and above the picture optimizer plus II (SDI) checks picture content for freeze frames on all inputs so as to protect sensitive display devices from "burn-in". If there is constant detection of freeze frames for a 3 minute period a "screensaver" activates to protect, for example, a plasma panel.
Then the picture is completely blackened and a time display is activated (starting at 7 minutes and counting down). If the freeze frame continues the scaler automatically deactivates after 7 minutes. The screensaver function is automatically switched off if the picture content returns to continuous motion. Any command issued by the remote (e.g. key "exit ") will also cancel the screensaver function at any time.
The screensaver function can be activated or deactivated in the "OTHER OPTIONS" menu. The screensaver function is initially activated after a factory RESET for safety reasons.
Note: At the end of a film some DVDs jump to an animated title menu which, at least partly, shows moving pictures. In these cases the screensaver function cannot always automatically recognize a "freeze frame"
*** New "SLEEP TIMER" function ***
In order to reliably switch off and protect against burn-in it is now possible to activate a sleep timer. This is activated by using the "sleep timer" function in the bottom line of the main menu:
Here the scaler can be set to automatically switch itself off at 30 minute intervals up to a maximum of 2 hrs 30 mins. In order to make it easy to control remaining playback the main menu shows the time left to the exact minute. Displays and projectors can also be optionally switched off by using a vacant RS 232 socket.
Due to continuous progress the new 4.22 firmware additionally guarantees an even faster and more stable operation. It is now available for free download in the picture optimizer support area of our website.
Please note: this firmware is not suitable for the CT-50 HD control box!
