This post is for English speaking guys visiting this forum in search for info on Sharp XD1E.
First, thanks for overall information, we use and quote your forum very often.
This is not going to be an exact translation, because of the thread length, but highlights of the posts on this subject.
General comment:
This is a very good LCD. The test was not professional, bunch of enthusiasts playing with a tv set after hours.
Color reproduction is very pleasant. Face skin-tone reproduction excellent.
Black levels are not absolute, but satisfactory.
Overscan – two options exist in menu – overscan and underscan ( pixel mapping 1:1)
Nobody could answer on Ifa, if this tv set supports 1080/24p. Not tested.
Action mode. Switch is possible with a remote control - was tested on a special test – it does improve smearing – but picture flicker can be noticed by some, for sure the effect can be clearly seen in a camera viewfinder.
TruD – option has not worked on this prototype – the message on the screen – option invalid
We do understand what this option is for. The comparison of this feature of micronas chip to 100 Hz, is only due to the fact, that both address the same problem – motion.
From private conversations with Sharp guys on Ifa in Berlin we know, that sharp is considering it in next coming models – maybe in HD1 – that prototype could be seen on Ifa pictures, that you have links in your thread.
Connectors
You can see on the pictures two HDMI interfaces.
Component connection is to be realized by supplied VGA adaptor (see pictures- marked with red). HDMI showed the edge over the component connection it was much better.
VGA – info from Ifa – does not support 1080 – maybe next generation of micronas chip will. Not tested by us.
As for picture adjustments (like color) menu resembles other top sharp’s models.
We have tried to treat it with different quality feeds, using Snazio and Japanese Sharp Blu-ray/DVD player/recorder.
XD1 has showed the difference in fed material – “Kingdom of Heaven” being a bad example, even ironically it was used on Ifa as a demo. The best and stunning looking was Queen of Trees, a Discovery piece.
The menu of TV has a Polish language – but the translation of Jap.-> Eng-> Pol is sometimes a little bit confusing, same for instructions of use for older models.
For example >film mode< - nobody knows what is does exactly. It says about auto detection of 24 fps origin. And?
As for the glossy frame – it does collect dust. The stand (feet) is glossy too, it is said, that may be changed. Speakers are at the bottom of the frame, facing down.
Because, pretty much the same team has tested (but on different feeds) Sony 46X2000 few weeks earlier, general opinion is that Sharp has a better picture, and to decide on which black levels are better, both TVs has to be put side-by-side and fed with the same stuff.
The design in our opinion is more attractive in Sharp, the Sony's floating glass - plexi rather, is not giving the best impression, but glossy frame can not be replaced or color changed, like that is the case wiyh Sony X.
Cheers,
