nuovo Oppo DV-981HD
Per i primi giorni di dicembre è in uscita negli States il nuovo lettore della oppo 981HD,evoluzione del glorioso e pluridecorato 971;quoto un estratto del thread sul 981 di avsforum(americano):
"I just bought the November edition of Sound & Vision magazine and on page 9 there is a whole page from OPPO which shows the one of the following:
DV-981HD
•Built upon legendary OPDV971H technology
•DCDI by Faroudja video processing
•Updated with HDMI, true 1080p and SACD playback"
e ancora sempre dallo stesso thread:

quindi le premesse sembrano molto interessanti considerando la fama del 971..........speriamo bene!

E' vero che il 971H non dava il meglio di se in component ma non vedo perché invece di migliorare un aspetto deficitario si decida di eliminarlo del tutto :rolleyes:
La connessione component di qualità è ancora una delle migliori, a mio avviso, disponibili nel panorama video.
Sul fatto che riproduca i SACD non mi farei grosse aspettative. Lettori DVD di ben altro prezzo hanno prestazioni modesto in campo audio. L'importante è che faccia bene il suo lavoro sul fronte video ;)

Difatti mi faccio un bel Denon 3930 :p ..visto all'opera ..proprio dalla component..spettacolo! :eek:
...e dall'HDMI sia a 720p che 1080p NON C'E' STORIA per nessuno! :cool:
PS: se volete GODERE veramente lasciate perdere questi giocattoli ;)
Daccordo costano poco direte voi, ma la regola dell'HT e' sempre la stessa .... QUALITA' = COSTO ! ..e non mi venite a dire che l' Oppo si potrebbe paragonare all'ultimo gioiello nato in casa Denon (3930) perche' vengo personalmente a casa vostra con il player per una comparativa! :p

dalla lettura della discussione su avs forum ho appreso che
come molti player dotati di Faroudja anche questo dovrebbe soffrire del macroblocking proprio come il fratello minore 971H dato che nulla è stato modificato rispetto a quest'ultimo player.
Qualcuno sa dirmi quanto veramente questo difetto sia fastidioso e presente? Ed inoltre se è generalizzato o dipende dall'accoppiata Player display/vpr.

Infatti...
Il denon costa più di 1000 euro se non sbaglio e con questi soldi compri un'ottima qualità in hdmi, ottime uscite analogiche sia audio che video, migliore design e soprattutto la marca.
L'oppo con 200 euro circa ti offre solo un'ottima qualità video in dvi (riconosciuta da tutti quelli che hanno scelto di provarlo senza pregiudizi).
Dipende tutto da quello che cerchi, io sono soddisfattissimo del mio 971h che uso esclusivamente col vpr in dvi.
Tornando in topic, secondo me l'unica differenza sostanziale è l'upscaling a 1080p, quindi, considerando che ho un vpr 720p, tengo il mio.

questa regola è ineccepibile,ma un'altra regola secondo me è che ci sia un "equilibrio" tra tutte le varie componenti dell'impianto HT,quindi per quelli come me che hanno "modesti" tv lcd 32"(che comunque danno grandi soddisfazioni)un lettore come l'oppo penso sia la scelta azzeccata,se invece poi si hanno proiettori o plasma 50" full hd da svariate migliaia di euro allora a più senso l'accoppiata col denon 3930 e simili....(anche se poi mi sembra che siano in tanti i felici possessori dell'accoppiata 971-VPR :D ).

Non hai saputo leggere "tra le righe" ;)
Era solo per dire che:
Ad oggi un buon player Hi-end e' sicurmente piu MATURO in termini sia di immagine che di SCALER rispetto a questi "giocattoli" che aspirano a fare di tutto e di piu, ma che in realta non fanno bene nulla.. o solo in parte...(scaling, deinterlaccio etc etc etc...).... (senza polemica eh ;) )
Daccordo che stiamo su due prezzi completamente diversi, ma se si vuole un player PAL definitivo e' l'unica (se uno e' un vero appassionato), certo d'altronde devono pur creare un "mercato base", senno' non venderebbero nulla! :p

Ok. Ora ritorniamo a parlare di OPPO 981. Naturalmente paragoni e confronti ci possono stare ma manteniamoci sui modelli realmente "paragonabili".

Default settings are utilzed, for the most part. Some suggestions:
TV Display = Wide/SQZ (Will "pillarbox" 4:3 material with a slight penalty in 4:3 resolution)
Brightness = 0
Sharpness = OFF
CCS = OFF (may reduce some flicker between bright colors)
TrueLife = OFF (setting to ON will enable the Noise Reduction feature to be used)
DIRECT PLAY:
To skip over the majority of warnings, promos, etc:
As soon as the DVD will allow:
Press Stop
Press Menu
"Direct Play" may appear briefly on the screen and the movie should begin.
CHECK FIRMWARE VERSION
Check Firmware Version:
Power on the player with no disc inserted.
Press "OSD" on remote.
Note the popup on the screen. The "Batch" notation will be the firmware level.
MAKE REGION FREE:
The latest shipment of units are not region free. To change to region free mode do this:
Press Setup on remote control to access the setup page
Enter 9210 on the remote
A secret menu will pop up
Select 0 to 6 in region code (0 is region free)
Press Setup on remote again to exit

Physical:
The obvious styling change as compared to the other Oppo Digital players is that this one is black in color. I think the Oppo is an attractive looking player -- I really like the understated styling and brushed black metal accent on the front panel. The player is solid feeling. While the tray is thin and flexes, it is tough. Solid metal on five sides. The disc door opens quietly. The discs spin smoothly and there seems to be no unusual vibrations. The RCA connectors are gold plated. Four foot pads with simulated "feet" in front.
Operation:
Just as nice as the DV-971H. Fast, secure, disc handling. Skipping tracks and general navigation is a joy. As with other MediaTek players, layer change is lightning fast. The Panasonic S97 has a lot more configuration items, no doubt about it, however the simplicity of the Oppo has its appeal as well. The quality of the zoom is not quite in the leauge of the Momitsu V880, but the picture looks fair. HDMI was enabled "out of the box". DTS decoder is included.
Picture:
Just as nice as the DV-971H. The Oppo player has a *lot* of detail. 1080p, in my view, ehances the picture even better. I tend to sit very close to the display and density of the pixels is just amazing. The DV-981HD takes advantage of that. The "per pixel" feature of the Sony 40XBR2 takes full advantage of the 1080p upconversion and is recommended for optimum viewing. While it does not play the new High Definition discs, the picture is immersive and quite startling. When using the player, start with the defaut settings. With these settings, color, tint, BTB, grayscale all looked correct and verified via DVE, filters, and 6500K reference. Good motion characteristics -- as expected with Faroudja. Pans looked smooth. Macroblock enhance is noted in some dim scenes. Some light random blocks of color tint noted with black and white material. Individual results may vary, but after lenghty viewing I think the Oppo may be doing a slightly better job than the S97. In many ways, the picture of this player reminds me of the 'S97 -- not real surprising given the Faroudja processing. Macroblock enhance aside, I would say the picture is vastly better than the V880.
