Filmati AVI da youtube per WD TV?

ciao.
scarico filmati HD da youtube, li do in pasto al wd fw 1.03.01, ma lui non riesce a leggere e da il solito messagio "formato non supportato, utilizzare il sw di conversione per un formato compatibile"...
eppure il vlc (su pc) riconosce il codec VC1 dichiarato compatibile anche dalla wd:
perchè??
ovviamente facendo la conversione in mp4 o altri formati, lui legge ma perdo decisamente qualità....sigh!!
